(military) A general officer's rank in some nations' militaries, corresponding to the rank of either a lieutenant general or full general in the United States rank system.

(astronomy) A catalogue of deep sky objects compiled in the 1880s by J. L. E. Dreyer using observations mostly from William Herschel. It contains nearly 8,000 objects, known as the NGC objects. Objects in the catalogue are numbered, and the letters NGC are prepended to these numbers, as in NGC 224 (the Andromeda Galaxy) or NGC 6205 (the globular cluster in Hercules).

(law) A kind of government bond that is a charge against the taxpayers generally, as distinguished from bonds for improvements, the cost of which is charged to the property specially benefited.

(set theory) The hypothesis that, for each ordinal 𝛼, there is no cardinal number strictly between א_𝛼 and 2^(א_𝛼), i.e. 2^(א_𝛼)=א_(𝛼+1).
