Red Star over Europe: The Bolsheviks seized power firmly convinced that socialist revolution was imminent in advanced western countries. These, they believed, would come to the aid of backward Russia.

Red Star over Asia: As the prospects of revolution dimmed in the west, Lenin looked eastwards to the backward countries colonised by the great powers. Here the struggle for independence might be combined with the fight for socialism.
