Drinking Gourd

(astronomy, obsolete, especially US) A bright circumpolar asterism of the northern sky. It is part of the constellation Ursa Major and includes the stars Alkaid, Mizar, Alioth, Megrez, Dubhe, Merak, and Phecda.
