compression wood
(linguistics) An element in a clause, sentence, etc. that acts as the focus, or main element, in combination with another such element.
Reaction wood, in gymnosperms and amborella, that forms on the side of the part which is under compression and straightens its bend, and which has a lower percentage of cellulose and a higher percentage of lignin than normal wood.
