On 29 April 1996, a group of dozen armed men attacked the houses of Qavul Toqa, a member of the CPPCC National Committee and Deputy to the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region People's Congress at Qunas village of Alaqagha Township in Kuqa County.
By now, a great many people were walking towards the fireworks but their steps fell so softly and they chatted in such gentle voices there was no more noise than a warm, continual, murmurous humming, the cosy should of shared happiness, and the night filled with a muted, bourgeois yet authentic magic. Above our heads, the fireworks hung dissolving earrings on the night. Soon we lay down in a stubbled field to watch the fireworks.
However, if any thane, or great lord, had a church, within his own demeſnes, diſtinct from the mother church, in the nature of a private chapel ; then, provided ſuch church had a cœmetery or conſecrated place of burial belonging to it, he might allot one third of his tithes for the maintenance of the officiating miniſter : but, if it had no cœmetery, the thane muſt himſelf have maintained his chaplain by ſome other means ; for in ſuch caſe all his tithes were ordained to be paid to the primariæ eccleſiæ or mother church *.
To his eyes it had no attraction; it savoured of simony, and was likely to bring down upon him harder and more deserved strictures than any he had yet received: he positively declined to become vicar of Puddingdale under any circumstances.
