Communication between the pathologist and the clinician is essential in the care of these patients. Dermatologists’ understanding of the pathology and the optimal method of biopsy and specimen handling is extremely important. By the same token, the pathologists’ understanding of clinical information pertinent in distinguishing these disorders is extremely beneficial in aiding the clinician’s narrowing of the differential diagnosis. Collaboration between the dermatologist and the pathologist in determining a final diagnosis in these cases can be challenging and rewarding, resulting in optimal care for the patient.
