In agreement with findings from flow cytometry and RPE attachment assays these results indicated that β1,6-(GlcNAc)-branched tri- and tetraantennary complex-type N-glycans on cell-surface glycoproteins are major glycoligands for Gal-3 on myofibroblastic RPE cells and that Gal-3 binding to these glycoconjugates is required for the Gal-3 mediated functional effects.
