Trp and Thr determinants transplanted in tR4 are not sufficient to support tryptophanylation and threonylation respectively, suggesting the presence of conflicting signals on the tR4 scaffold for the recognition by TrpRS and ThrRS. Interestingly, aspartate determinants grafted on the same scaffold support aspartylation in vitro.
