That is rather sublime for a Western man, and largely untrue. A Southerner will meet him with a flat-footed denial, that we are not a nation, in the usual meaning of the word; that we are a mere union of sovereign states—large and small, each state equal, and known by some designation as New Yorkians, Virginians, Tennesseans, South Carolinians, Georgians, &c.; that nobody ever read of United Statesians, and as for Americans, the designation is a grand geographical lie, for Canadians, Kamschatkians, and Mexicans are equally Americans with the dwellers in the 34 respective states.
In the Janam Sakhis and utterances of Guru Nanak there is no reference, implicit or explicit, to the subject of manjis.
