Samples of sandstone shale alluvial soil, sandstone shale and slate mixed alluvial soil, and Taiwan clay were collected from Taichung (120°40'10'E, 24°07'29'N), Chishan (120°30'00'E, 22°51'40'N) and Lutsao (120°16'15'E, 23°25'08'N), respectively. At Chishan and Lutsao, samples were taken not only from soil cultivated under an organic regime but also of soil that had been chemically fertilized.
