I approach this issue through a focus on the role of the voice in constituting the masculine gender positionalities of trans men and others on the transmasculine identity spectrum. Transmasculine is an umbrella term referring to individuals who were assigned to a female gender role at birth but at some point come to self-identify as men, or with some other masculine identity, rather than seeing themselves as women.
